Snow Emergency Levels in Hamilton County

Ohio law puts the declaration in the hands of each county sheriff, who may declare a snow emergency and temporarily close the state roads and municipal streets in the county when that is reasonably necessary to preserve the public peace. A level declared for Hamilton County applies to that county and stops at its line — the county next door can be at a different level, or at none. ORC § 311.07 and § 311.08

Level One

Highways and roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are icy, and drivers should proceed very cautiously.

Level Two

All or certain roadways in the County are hazardous with icy spots, and blowing and drifting snow, causing low visibility.

Level Three

Ice, blowing, and drifting snow have created extremely hazardous road conditions. Low visibility, extremely low temperatures, and worsening road conditions have caused the closing of all or certain County roadways to all but emergency and essential persons.
