1. The Perimeter to Morris from 239 m

   Four lanes south from St. Norbert down the Red River valley through Ste. Agathe to Morris: the dyked, flood-prone, dead-flat floor of the valley, where ice off the river fog and blowing snow off the fields closed the road for an afternoon on 20 December 2025.

2. Morris to Emerson

   Through Letellier and St. Jean Baptiste to the Pembina-Emerson crossing, the busiest truck border in the west: the same valley and the same wind, with the US highway patrol's I-29 closures on the far side.

Alternate routes when Highway 75 is closed

• If Highway 75 between Winnipeg and Emerson is closed: Highway 59 through St-Pierre-Jolys, then Highway 14 west — about 20 min longer than the direct road when both are open, 137 km against 108 km. The parallel road east of the river through St-Pierre-Jolys, back across to the border at Emerson by Highway 14. Two lanes, the same plain, but off the river ice.

How long is Winnipeg to the US border on Highway 75?

About 110 km and 1 h 30 min on a clear road as openrouteservice measures it from the city centre to Emerson. It is the truck route to Minnesota and North Dakota, and when it closes — for ice on 20 December 2025, for a blizzard on 17 January 2025 — the queue of trucks is the sign.

Does Highway 75 flood?

Yes, most springs to some degree: it runs along the Red River, and when the river rises Morris closes its ring dyke and cuts the highway. That is April and May; in winter the closures are ice and blowing snow, which are Manitoba 511's to declare.

Do I need winter tires to drive to the US border from Winnipeg?
